I decided as 25 years was a major milestone for Catan that I would collect the different 25th Anniversary sets for my collection. It has been released in 8 languages at this point, but I will keep checking to see if others are added to the list.
With the arrival of the Chinese set, I now have just the Russian and Polish versions to find. Pictured below are French, German, Spanish, English, Dutch and Chinese.
The contents of the English version differs from the other languages. This has been reviewed previously.
I had thought about collecting the new 3D sets in each language too, but there were three reasons I did not:
- Cost
- Difficulty in sourcing Nordic and Eastern European sets
- Again the cost!!
This really is the biggie when the NZ$ is worth less than many other currencies and shipping costs are so high.
Treasures, Dragons and Adventurers will always be SDE to me
Another cool set I have been collecting the languages of is the Schatze, Drachen & Entdecker (SDE) series. This has been just released in English as Treasues, Dragons and Adventurers. This set was first released in 2009 in German and (according to BGG) Czech. This was followed by a second edition in 2011, before being released again in a number of languages in 2017.
I also received the Chinese version of SDE in the same box as the 25th set above.
