For Christmas 2021 I have created my own Christmas version of Catan called (not surprisngly) Catan@Christmas.
To make it fit the theme it uses Santa, reindeer and snowmen, along with carol singers, enchanted forests and other Christmas themes. The board use the Game of Thrones hexes and border as these already have a nice winter theme.
I have created a set of rules shown below and created a small logo seen at the side if this text.
The focus of the game is to have fun, rather than spend too much time trying to stop your competitors. Play is to 12 points.
The game can also include 5/6 players as well as be made more complex with options to add ice fishing, the chocolate factory and/or the proper Durango hex rules. If these are added then 14 points are required to win.
The custom reindeer, snowmen and Santa have been made from items bought in a craft shop. Other non-standard components are from the German gaming materials site, spielmaterial.de. Ultimately the game will have its own set of cards, but at this point it uses the standard base set of cards.
I will also have a unique Largest Snowman Family and Longest Sleigh Route to replace the Largest Army and Longest Road cards. Other special hexes used are 2 x #westayhome, 1 x Durango and 1 x Great Caravan oasis, painted with a semi-white coating to create an ice hex. Treasure tokens are from another Catan expansion.
